American Airlines announced Friday that it will begin flights to Stillwater, OK beginning August 23.
Home to Oklahoma State University, Stillwater has been working to land flights to Dallas-Fort Worth for about two years to help support the local business boom and OSU.
“We have a significant amount of businesses and industries that now fly, but they have to drive to Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Wichita,” Gary Johnson, director at Stillwater Regional Airport to The Daily O’Collegian in a recent article. “Our intent, of course, is to capture the market with good air service directly to a hub.”
“Gone will be the time when I get up at 2:30 or 3 a.m. to get down to Oklahoma City or Tulsa to catch a 6 a.m. flight,” Johnson said. “That makes for a long day.”
Flights will be operated by American subsidiary Envoy Air on 50-seat Embraer 145 jets. Flights will depart Stillwater daily at 6:55 a.m. and 2:35 p.m. and flights will arrive from Dallas-Fort Worth at 2:01 p.m. and 8:26 p.m.
