Route Update: Delta’s Non-Stop ATL Service Coming Back to CID

The Eastern Iowa Airport will again offer non-stop service to Atlanta with the announcement from Delta Air Lines that a daily flight will start in mid-August.

Delta representatives notified Airport Director Tim Bradshaw, AAE, earlier this year of its decision to put seasonal non-stop service to Memphis (MEM) starting June 9.

Bradshaw said that seasonal service will operate until Aug. 15. The following day, Aug. 16, the Memphis service will be switched to a daily Atlanta (ATL) flight. The move, Bradshaw said, will be welcomed by the region.

“We regularly hear from customers about their desire to have the non-stop service access to Atlanta,” Bradshaw said. “The connections offered out of Atlanta, both domestic and international, are excellent.”

Delta first started the Atlanta service out of The Eastern Iowa Airport (CID) in June 2006. When Delta merged with Northwest Airlines, the carrier made various changes throughout its system and CID’s Atlanta service ended in August 2009.

Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport has been the world busiest airport by passenger traffic and number of landings and take-offs since 1999, serving 88 million passengers per year. Business and leisure travelers will benefit from this new flight that features an early morning departure.

A 50-seat Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ) will be used. The ATL schedule is (All flight times are local):

Depart CID:  6:15 a.m.                                              Arrive ATL: 9 a.m.

Depart ATL: 7:20 p.m.                                              Arrive CID:  8:10 p.m.

Bradshaw said he appreciates Delta adding both the Memphis and Atlanta service.

“Both Delta flights will be a real boost for the airport and gives regional travelers another option when planning a trip,” he said. “We would like to see the Memphis service be so popular that it would be offered year-round. If people utilize the flight this summer, perhaps Delta would look at maintaining the flight.”

A 50-seat Canadair Regional will be used for the MEM flight. The MEM schedule is as follows: (All times are local)

Depart CID:  6:10 a.m.                      Arrive MEM: 7:51 a.m.

Depart MEM: 7:30 p.m.                    Arrive CID:   9:11 p.m.
